In a shocking incident, a police constable and a home guard were arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a woman who had approached the police for help in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district.
The 28-year-old survivor alleged that the accused Constable, identified as Umashankar of Chittoor’s Punganur police station and Home Guard Kiran Kumar gave her a drink mixed with sedatives and raped her multiple times. Later, they threatened to kill her three children if she revealed the matter, NDTV reported.

The survivor further alleged that the home guard repeatedly harassed her through phone calls.
She claimed that even after visiting multiple police stations to file a complaint, no action was taken for almost two weeks, and it was only after she made a public appeal for justice that the police finally registered the case.
“Following her public appeal for justice in front of the media, Bangarupalyam police registered a case under relevant sections,” NDTV quoted Deputy Superintendent of Police of Palamaner, Degala Prabhakar, as saying.
The police have launched an investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl from Kalyan in Maharashtra’s Thane was allegedly raped by seven men for about five months. All accused were arrested and produced before a local court, which sent them into eight days of police custody on Tuesday, officials said.
The victim, a college student, initially connected with one of the accused on Instagram in April this year. Their friendship soon developed into a relationship. The accused recorded their sexual encounters without her consent, used the videos to blackmail her, and later shared them with six of his friends.
