FBI’s Kash Patel says ‘Anti-ICE’ message found on ammo at Dallas shooting that killed detainee

Police authorities have said that the gunman fired indiscriminately at the ICE facility as well as a van nearby, killing one detainee, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, no law enforcement official was injured

A sniper opened fire at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) centre in Dallas, Texas, leading to one death and two injuries. A photo released by Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel on X shows that one of the casings contained the phrase “ANTI-ICE” on it.

Police authorities have said that the gunman fired indiscriminately at the ICE facility as well as a van nearby, killing one detainee, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. However, no law enforcement official was injured.

It marks the latest in a series of attacks on ICE facilities in recent months, as the agency intensifies efforts to carry out President Donald Trump’s pledge for mass deportations.

“While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack. These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off,” Patel said.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN on Wednesday that those injured could include employees, visitors, or detainees, and investigations are ongoing.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said details were still emerging but confirmed “multiple injuries and fatalities” at the site. The motive remains unclear, though she noted a recent increase in attacks targeting ICE personnel.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department was dispatched at 6:41 am after a call reporting a shooting at or near the immigration office, department spokesperson Jason L. Evans said in an email. Evans said he didn’t have any confirmed details he could share, calling it an active and ongoing incident.

A July 4 attack at a Texas immigration detention centre injured a police officer, who was shot in the neck. Attackers dressed in black military-style clothing opened fire outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, southwest of Dallas, federal prosecutors said. At least 11 people have been charged in connection with the attack.
