A seemingly joyous wedding in Karnataka has spiraled into a headline-grabbing dispute involving accusations of impotence, public humiliation, and massive financial demands. Praveen, a resident of Govindaraja Nagar in Bengaluru, married a woman from Chikkamagaluru on May 5 in Tarikere.

What should have been a quiet first night for the newlyweds became the flashpoint for a bitter conflict that has dragged both families through police stations and public embarrassment.

Intimacy Row Sparks Allegations

According to Praveen’s police complaint, trouble began immediately after the wedding ceremony. On the night they were married, Praveen reportedly hesitated to be intimate with his new wife.

The bride interpreted this as rejection and, in the days that followed, informed her relatives that her husband had failed to “touch her.” Instead of seeking a private conversation, the family allegedly confronted Praveen and publicly shamed him, claiming he was impotent.

The dispute quickly took a financial turn. The bride and her family allegedly demanded a staggering Rs 2 crore in compensation, describing it as alimony for a marriage they now considered a sham.

Public accusations about Praveen’s masculinity spread through their community, adding a layer of humiliation to what was already an intensely private matter. Praveen maintains that the claims about his health and ability are baseless and defamatory.

Assault at the Groom’s Home

The rift escalated dramatically on August 17. Praveen reported that members of his wife’s family barged into his Bengaluru residence without warning. During the confrontation, they allegedly assaulted both him and his relatives.

The incident, described by neighbors as loud and chaotic, forced Praveen to call the police. An FIR was filed at the Govindaraja Nagar police station against his wife and ten of her family members for trespass and assault.

The conflict didn’t end there. Shortly after the FIR was registered, the bride filed her own complaint at a women’s police station, accusing Praveen of neglect and emotional abuse.

This tit-for-tat legal maneuvering kept both families in and out of police stations for weeks. Community elders attempted to mediate, but emotions ran high as each side accused the other of dishonesty and greed.

Talks of Settlement and Monetary Claims

As mediation efforts continued, discussions shifted to finances. The wife’s family insisted they had spent roughly Rs 65 lakh on the wedding and demanded that Praveen reimburse those expenses if the marriage was to end.

According to Praveen’s account to police, his family eventually agreed to pay Rs 50 lakh in a bid to defuse the situation and avoid a protracted court battle. The large sum highlights the social and financial pressures tied to lavish Indian weddings, where disputes can quickly become entangled with money and honor.

After recording statements from both parties and confirming the exchange of funds, Bengaluru police indicated that they are preparing to close the case. No formal charges of assault or extortion have been finalized, but the episode has drawn attention as a cautionary tale of how private marital issues can escalate into public and costly confrontations.

A Private Dispute Turned Public Spectacle

What began as a personal disagreement between newlyweds has become a legal and financial saga. Beyond the individual drama, the case underscores the weight of social expectations around marriage, intimacy, and money.

It serves as a reminder that when families let pride and rumor rule, a single night can ignite a chain of events that no amount of money or police paperwork can easily undo.
