In a major breakthrough in the case of a Bangladeshi minor girl rescued from Cuttack, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more accused from Kolkata. The arrested individuals have been identified as Amir Ali Sheikh and Amal Krishna Mondal, both residents of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.

During the operation, the agency also seized Bangladeshi, Indian, and foreign currency from the possession of the accused, strengthening the suspicion of a wider trafficking and cross-border crime network. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo lured the minor with the false promise of employment in India. However, upon arrival, she was coerced into immoral trafficking activities, exposing the organized nature of the racket.

NIA officials carried out raids at five different locations, including Kolkata and Bongaon, to trace the network’s operations and recover incriminating evidence. The arrests mark a significant step forward in unearthing the trafficking nexus that has spread across states and involves cross-border elements.

The case dates back to November last year, when the Madhupatna Police in Cuttack rescued the Bangladeshi minor girl. Initial investigations by the local police had already led to the arrest of six individuals linked to the case. Those arrested earlier included Rajanikant Behera alias Gopi, Abdulla Seyadul Suleman, Omprakash Choudhury and his wife Jasmin Choudhury, Sasmita Das, and Shivkumar Dora.

With the arrest of Sheikh and Mondal, the number of accused held in this case has now risen to eight. The NIA suspects that more individuals may be linked to the trafficking ring, which exploited vulnerable women and minors under the guise of offering jobs. Further investigations are underway to identify the larger network and its possible international connections.
