November is the final deadline for contractors to repair potholes on Bengaluru roads after Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar made the announcement on Wednesday.

Under pressure from criticism over Bengaluru’s poor roads and civic infrastructure, Shivakumar said the repair work is underway to fill potholes and contractors have been given “strict” deadlines.

His announcement comes a day after a startup CEO said, in a post that has gone viral, that he will relocate his company from the city’s Outer Ring Road due to poor road conditions and traffic congestion.

“Bengaluru’s roads are getting the attention they need, and repair work is already underway. Funds have been allocated, contractors have started work and have been given strict deadlines. We are committed to providing our people with safer and smoother travel,” Shivakumar said in a post on X.

The deputy chief minister said a final deadline has been given to contractors to fill the city’s potholes by November to ensure a clean and smooth traffic flow. He assured that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will provide relief from potholes at the earliest.

“Contractors have been given a final deadline to fill the potholes within November to resolve the problem. Since a clean Bengaluru and smooth traffic are our goals, GBA will provide relief from potholes as soon as possible,” he said.

A few days ago, a video shot by three schoolchildren during their bumpy bus ride in Bengaluru had gone viral, exposing the condition of the roads in the city and daily struggles faced by the commuters.

Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru development minister, on September 14 said the city is set for a major push in road development with Rs 1,100 crore allocated for repair and construction.

“We are committed to ensuring every constituency benefits from these funds and to building smooth, pothole-free roads across the city,” he said.
