In a daring heist in Kavathemahankal in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, four individuals posing as Income Tax officers raided the home of renowned doctor Jagannath Mhetre on Sunday night, making off with a large haul of gold ornaments and cash.
The impostors gained entry with a fake ‘search warrant’, carrying out the audacious robbery under the guise of an official tax raid, reminiscent of the Bollywood movie ‘Special 26’.

Claiming they were there to conduct a search, the impostors meticulously inspected the house, seizing approximately Rs 16 lakh in cash and 1 kg of gold ornaments valued at Rs 2 crore.
Initially, Dr Mhetre was unaware that the officers were not genuine. However, his suspicion grew during the raid, prompting him to contact the Kavathemahankal police immediately.
