Surat police have arrested two women in connection with the suicide of 20-year-old jeweler Amar Kant Jeswal from Gokulnagar, Parvat village. Action followed a handwriting expert report on the suicide note.

Amar Kant, son of Rajeshbhai Jeswal from Amroli (originally from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh), took his own life on September 12, 2024, at his home. A suicide note in his possession named neighbour Nilam Yadav and her sister Sheetal Gupta as reasons for his death.

The two-page note, written in Hindi and English, accused Nilam of cheating Amar Kant and Sheetal of misleading him for money. It stated he paid Rs 70,000 to Nilam and Rs 50,000 to Sheetal, totalling Rs 1.2 lakh, under false pretences.

The note also mentioned that Sheetal, though married, continued contact and maintained other relationships. Amar Kant faced threats when he questioned them. He even cited Nilam’s lover Raja Pandey, stating he was threatened with death. The note referenced call recordings and other evidence on his phone.

The suicide note was sent to the FSL for analysis. After a year, the handwriting report led to police action. Limayat police booked Nilam Yadav and pregnant Sheetal Gupta for abetment of suicide. Nilam was arrested in Gokulnagar, Surat, and Sheetal in Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation is ongoing.
