Cabinet: Prahlad Joshi Given Additional Charge of Education Ministry After Dharmendra Pradhan’s Exit

The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Narendra Modi government has assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of Education to Prahlad Joshi, who continues to hold the Consumer Affairs portfolio. According to a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu accepted Pradhan’s resignation on the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and approved Joshi’s appointment as the interim Education Minister. Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, Joshi said he would discharge the new responsibility with humility, honesty, and complete dedication. Since the BJP first came to power in 2014, the Education Ministry has been led by Smriti Irani (2014–2016), Prakash Javadekar (2016–2019), Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ (2019–2021), and Dharmendra Pradhan (2021–2026), whose tenure of over five years was the longest before Prahlad Joshi assumed additional charge on July 25, 2026. Meanwhile, CJP welcomed Pradhan’s resignation, claiming the government accepted its key demands, including compensation for affected families and withdrawal of FIRs against protesters, calling the outcome a major victory for students and democratic accountability.
