A blast of low-intensity occurred on Thursday afternoon near a mosque in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda town. According to the Indian Express, who first reported the development, the blast took place near Thukar Mohalla of Doda town. Officials speaking to the newspaper said that no one was injured.

Their report highlighted that the low-intensity blast took place “under mysterious circumstances” near Jama Masjid. Citing people familiar with the matter, the newspaper said that police have taken two individuals into custody for questioning.

“The police and FSL teams are on the job to ascertain details,” DIG Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar range, Shridhar Patil was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The blast comes amid tension in the district of Doda following the detention of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), the newspaper pointed out.

Malik, who won the Doda seat in the 2024 assembly elections by over 4,500 votes, was detained on Monday under the PSA for allegedly disturbing public order, officials said. He was subsequently lodged in the Kathua district jail.

This is the first time a sitting MLA in Jammu and Kashmir has been taken into custody under the stringent law, which allows detention without charge or trial for up to two years in some cases.
