Two young boys died after being bitten by a venomous snake while watching television with their father in Kulpa village of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday night, police said.

The victims have been identified as Kunal and Ishant Dahare, sons of Dinesh Dahare, a resident of Kulpa village under Lanji tehsil. The incident occurred around 10 pm when the family was watching TV, according to local authorities.

Both children began vomiting suddenly, prompting the family to call a doctor. When the physician was unable to determine the cause, he advised taking the children to a private hospital in Gondia.

Ishant, the younger son, died en route to the hospital. Kunal was admitted but succumbed to his injuries later. Their father, Dinesh, who also showed symptoms after being bitten, remains in critical condition at the hospital.

“Initially, no one realised they had been bitten by a snake. The symptoms appeared later,” said a police official familiar with the case.

Following the incident, villagers searched the house and found a Common Krait, locally known as Dandekar, which they killed. The snake is known for its painless bite that often goes unnoticed until symptoms develop.

The children’s mother is reportedly in shock. Local residents and family members have gathered to console the grieving family.

Police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS (Case No. 62/25) and launched an investigation.

Common Kraits are nocturnal snakes that frequently enter homes at night while hunting. Their bites are often painless and victims may not realise they have been bitten until symptoms like vomiting, paralysis, and respiratory problems appear hours later.

This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by venomous snakes in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh during night-time hours.
