A student opened fire at his peers, then shot himself, and died later, on Wednesday, at a suburban Denver high school in Colorado, United States, according to AP. The incident took place at 12:30 PM (local time) on Wednesday at Evergreen High School in Evergreen.

Gunshots were reportedly fired both inside and outside the school building. The officials reached the spot immediately, and the shooter was found within five minutes, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley.

Kelly informed that over 100 police officials rushed to the spot to help.

According to an official statement by St. Anthony Hospital CEO Kevin Cullinan, one of the teens is in stable condition now and has non-life-threatening injuries.

Parents Panic After Shooting

The parents of the students panicked and gathered outside the school after they learned about the shooting incident.

The mother of a 15-year-old student said she got worried as her daughter did not answer her call after the shooting. She was relieved only after the girl called her back from a borrowed phone, as per a report by the Denver Post.

“She just said she was OK. She couldn’t hardly speak,” Wendy Nueman said.

“It’s super scary,” she said. “We feel like we live in a little bubble here. Obviously, no one is immune.”

There are over 900 students in the school which is largely surrounded by forest. It is about a mile from the centre of Evergreen.
