Parliament Strategy: Opposition Raises Anti-Defection Law Debate Amid Parliament’s Paper Leak Discussion

Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted a motion in the Lok Sabha seeking discussion on reviewing and strengthening the anti-defection law. The move comes amid the ongoing debate on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, with the Opposition raising concerns over political defections and accountability of elected representatives. Tewari has reportedly been submitting notices repeatedly over the past several days, arguing that the law needs reconsideration to prevent the misuse of political switching and strengthen democratic values. However, the notice has not yet been accepted. Meanwhile, Opposition parties are preparing their strategy for the Monsoon Session, with issues such as alleged Ram Temple donation irregularities also likely to be raised after the paper leak debate. During discussions on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, leaders from both sides exchanged sharp remarks. Opposition leaders questioned the government’s record on paper leak cases, while the ruling side highlighted previous incidents under earlier governments and defended the proposed amendments.
