Lokesh Kanagaraj breaks silence on LCU future

Lokesh Kanagaraj breaks silence on LCU future; Confirms 'Kaithi 2,' 'Vikram 2,' and 'Rolex' are on

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has finally addressed the growing speculation surrounding the future of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Over the past few weeks, speculation grew that the filmmaker had decided to step away from the shared universe linking movies such as ‘Kaithi’, ‘Vikram,’ and ‘Leo.’ The reports raised concern among fans anxiously awaiting the next chapter in the franchise. Lokesh has now put all those rumours to rest with a clear message, assuring fans that the LCU remains a major part of his future plans.

Lokesh’s clarification on the future of LCU

Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed the rumours during a recent public event and firmly denied claims that the cinematic universe had been shelved in a chat with News 18. “There was a lot of buzz that the LCU had been closed. I may even close G Squad if the situation demands it, but I can never close the LCU. In fact, I didn’t even create that name. It was the fans who coined the term on social media, and I simply embraced it. Even today, I continue to follow that idea,” he said. His statement immediately reassured fans worried about the future of the interconnected franchise.

Director confirms ‘Kaithi 2,’ ‘Vikram 2,’ and ‘Rolex’ remain commitments

Lokesh further explained that several LCU projects are already part of his long-term commitments and will move forward after he completes his ongoing work. “I cannot suddenly come out and say that I won’t make any more LCU films. ‘Kaithi 2,’ ‘Vikram 2,’ and the standalone Rolex film are all my commitments. The LCU is not closed. It will definitely continue. After I finish Allu Arjun sir’s film, I will come back to these projects. ‘Benz,’ which is being produced under my banner, is also a part of the LCU,” he said. The director’s comments have reignited excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the next phase of the franchise.

LCU remains one of Tamil cinema’s biggest franchises

The Lokesh Cinematic Universe began with ‘Kaithi’ before expanding through ‘Vikram’ and ‘Leo,’ creating one of Tamil cinema’s most successful interconnected franchises. With its recurring characters, crossover moments, and overall narrative tying together multiple films, the universe has built a fanbase. While Lokesh is currently preparing for his acting debut in ‘DC,’ directed by Arun Matheswaran, and will next direct Allu Arjun’s much-awaited action film, he has now made it clear that the LCU remains firmly on track.
