Vivek Oberoi talks about Akshay Kumar helping him out in 2003

Vivek Oberoi calls ‘Akshay Kumar’ ‘Superstar’, reveals how ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ star helped him out of his boycott

Vivek Oberoi talks about how Akshay Kumar was the one who lent him a helping hand during the boycott

Vivek Oberoi rose to fame in the early 2000s in the film industry; however, later on in life, his career hit a slump. Following his feud with Salman Khan that was heavily publicized, Oberoi faced an involuntary boycott in the industry; however, it was fellow star and close friend Akshay Kumar who stood by his side and helped him out. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the time when he was not landing films or any other projects, and how the ‘OMG’ actor was one of the few people who helped him out when no one else was ready to.

Vivek Oberoi talks about how Akshay Kumar saved him

Oberoi recalled that after hitting a slump and getting boycotted in the Bollywood industry in the early 2000s, it was Akshay Kumar who reached out to him with a helping hand. The actor, while in conversation with Mirchi Plus, revealed that at the time he had been landing no jobs, and was facing rejection with everything, no matter what. However, one day, Akshay Kumar had reached out to him on a call. The actor revealed that Kumar had reached out to him, and had listened to his plight as well. He added, “Akshay Kumar, superstar! Called me one day and asked, ‘Where are you?’ I told him that I am at home, very depressed. Half an hour later, he landed at my house. He said that he wanted to sit and talk to me. Then, he asked me about what problems I was going through.”He continued and talked about how the ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ had told him that he would divert some of his offers to him to help him out. “He said, ‘See, I can’t do anything about all of this, but I can help in shaping your positive mindset’. He then said that there are so many shows going on, I have many blockbuster songs, and he is busy with shoot. So, he can’t do these shows due to his busy schedule, and he can divert them to me”, Oberoi shared, adding that he was in disbelief that the actor would skip out on roles.Oberoi commented, “He didn’t want to do it and asked me to take them up. Kya baat hai! Who does something like this for someone?”

Vivek Oberoi says Akshay Kumar’s help landed him back on the Bollywood scene

With the fellow actor’s help with shows and other projects, he was able to land good roles and even make good money at the time. He further mentioned that, “With that help, I started going back on stage, started seeing fans in a show, they are cheering, and I got a good positive feeling. I earned money also. My frustration was that I am delivering films, they are achieving success, getting awards, but why am I still not getting work? Why the boycott?Oberoi also mentioned that rather than saying that he can do something about the boycott, Kumar gave him the opportunity to work and get over the boycott himself. “So, he didn’t say I will stand up for you, I will fight against the lobby, etc. He gave me a simple, practical solution”, he shared.

What had happened with Vivek Oberoi and Salman Khan

Oberoi had risen to fame with his debut films, ‘Company’ and ‘Sathiya’; however, it was a comment that he had made against Salman Khan that had landed him in muddy waters. During a press conference, the actor had commented about how Salman Khan had been intimidating him, and how he had been doing so because Aishwarya Rai was allegedly with Vivek after breaking up with the ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ actor.
