The southwest monsoon remains active across several parts of India, bringing heavy rainfall, flooding, and widespread disruption. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh continue to receive intense rain, leading to waterlogging, overflowing rivers, and landslide risks. In Maharashtra’s Nashik district, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, warning of a possible cloudburst between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar with up to 300 mm of rainfall expected within 24 hours. Rising water levels in the Godavari River have flooded nearby areas and submerged several temples, while authorities have deployed rescue teams and stationed personnel along riverbanks. Schools, colleges, and major temples, including Trimbakeshwar and Saptashrungi, remain closed as a precaution. In Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district, swollen rivers have submerged bridges, roads, temples, and ghats, yet some residents continue risking their lives by crossing floodwaters despite repeated warnings. Meanwhile, in Pune, a dilapidated two-storey building collapsed, but timely evacuation by the fire department prevented casualties. Authorities remain on high alert as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
