Relentless monsoon rains have intensified across Maharashtra, with Nashik emerging as one of the worst-hit districts. Continuous rainfall has caused the Godavari River to swell, flooding nearby areas and submerging several temples along its banks. Authorities have deployed rescue personnel and are closely monitoring the river as water levels continue to rise. The India Meteorological Department has warned of a possible cloudburst between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, forecasting up to 300 mm of rainfall. As a precaution, schools, colleges, offices, and major temples, including Trimbakeshwar and Saptashrungi, remain closed. State Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan is overseeing emergency preparedness on the ground. Elsewhere in Maharashtra, landslides have disrupted traffic on the Mumbai-Goa Highway and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, while severe flooding has affected Thane, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, and Pune. A dilapidated building collapsed in Pune without causing casualties after timely evacuation. Rescue teams also evacuated stranded residents in Lonavala and Vasai-Virar. Authorities remain on high alert as heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 to 48 hours.
