The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged donation theft at the Ram Temple has uncovered serious irregularities in its preliminary report, pointing to systemic lapses in the temple’s donation management process. Investigators found that cash and valuables were stolen during the counting of offerings, with CCTV footage reportedly showing employees hiding money in their pockets, clothes, and shoes while removing cash from bundles. The report states that established counting protocols were routinely ignored, prompting recommendations for a detailed investigation into the accused employees’ bank accounts, assets, and financial transactions. Between April 27 and June 5, the SIT identified around 70 instances of suspected theft. It also highlighted weak security measures, including the absence of mandatory staff searches, non-implementation of pocketless uniforms, permission to carry personal belongings inside counting areas, lack of biometric attendance, and failure to rotate staff regularly. The report further cited negligence by officials overseeing the counting process. Meanwhile, police have sought custody of three more suspects as the investigation expands, with a court hearing on the remand request scheduled.
