Rhea on trauma post Sushant’s death, Showik says he has PTSD

Rhea Chakraborty opens up on the trauma post Sushant Singh Rajput's death, her brother Showik says he has post-traumatic stress disorder: 'You do therapy'

Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise left the industry and the audiences in shock. Fans still continue to remain heartbroken and miss the actor. Post Sushant’s death, Rhea Chakraborty was at the centre of scrutiny. In a recent interview, Rhea has opened up about the lasting emotional scars left by the turbulent period that followed Sushant’s death. Rhea reflected on the years of trauma, healing and recovery that followed one of the most difficult chapters of their lives.Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2020 during the investigation into a drug-related case linked to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Although several years have passed since then, both admitted that the experience continues to affect them.Looking back at the life he had envisioned before the controversy engulfed his family, Showik and Rhea spoke about how dramatically things changed.“Chapter 1 was completely opposite. I was this nerd who was trying to get into an MBA college, either IIM or Wharton. IIM was even a better option,” Showik said as he appeared with Rhea on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s chat show ‘Double Date’. Shovik recalled how quickly life took an unexpected turn, derailing the future he had planned for himself. “Then everything went south. No one can predict these things. Life just takes you completely by surprise,” he added. Speaking about the long road to recovery, Showik revealed that it took years for the family to begin rebuilding their lives. “There was a phase where things were really bad and they got over it. It took us about four to five years. Even now, there are some days when you think, ‘This happened to me.’”The lingering effects of that period, he said, are still very real. Showik shared that he continues to experience symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with certain everyday situations triggering painful memories. “I still have PTSD. Sometimes a random doorbell rings and it takes me back. There was so much chaos at that time that every doorbell made us feel like someone was coming after us,” he shared.During the conversation, Neha Dhupia asked Rhea whether she had managed to move past the trauma. The actor responded candidly, saying that some experiences never truly leave a person. “It’s not something that you can truly get over. It’s trauma. It stays in your body, if not in your mind.”Rhea explained that healing is not a one-time event but an ongoing process that requires constant work and self-awareness.“As like Shovik was saying, there’s PTSD. You do your therapy and you deal with it.”The siblings’ conversation offered a rare glimpse into the personal struggles they have faced away from the public eye, and how years of therapy, resilience and support have helped them navigate a period that fundamentally changed their lives.
