US-Iran Peace Deal: Trump Claims Hormuz Reopened as US-Iran Talks Stall

Three days after the US-Iran peace deal was signed, formal negotiations have yet to begin, with both sides continuing to exchange claims and warnings. US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is fully open, claiming over 700 ships have passed through and predicting further declines in global oil prices. He insisted Iran was more eager for the agreement than the US and ruled out any reconstruction payments to Tehran. Trump also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “warrior” and thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for staying out of the Iran issue. Meanwhile, reports suggest US intelligence has warned that Israeli military actions in Lebanon could undermine efforts to secure a lasting peace agreement with Iran. Iran has urged Washington to ensure Israel follows the Memorandum of Understanding and confirmed it will continue shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day negotiation period. Tehran also denied inviting the IAEA to inspect its nuclear facilities. Separately, a ceasefire has reportedly been reached between Israel and Hezbollah with mediation from the US, Qatar, and Iran.
