Police in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara have uncovered an alleged online fraud network involving fake NEET examination papers, just days ahead of the scheduled test. Acting on a tip-off, authorities detained a youth identified as Akash, who is suspected of running a digital scam through encrypted communication platforms. Officials conducted a raid at his residence and recovered a mobile phone, examination preparation materials and several documents believed to be linked to the case. According to investigators, the accused allegedly used VPN services and proxy-based access to operate a Telegram channel reportedly named “Paper Mafia,” where aspirants were approached with claims of providing access to question papers before the examination. Preliminary findings suggest that around 52 individuals were connected to the channel, and investigators are now examining possible financial transactions, digital communication records and the extent of the network’s reach among coaching students. Authorities stated that the material being circulated was entirely fake and no official examination content was compromised. The focus of the probe has now shifted to determining whether any candidates were defrauded of money and whether the accused acted independently or as part of a larger cyber fraud network. The incident has triggered heightened vigilance ahead of the NEET examination, with security measures being reinforced at centres across multiple states. Officials have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to mislead students or disrupt the examination process. Further investigation is ongoing.
