Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Manipur on September 13 for a four-hour trip packed with public engagements, inaugurations, and outreach to families displaced by the recent ethnic violence.

The Prime Minister will arrive from Mizoram and begin his programme at Churachandpur between 11.30am and 12 noon, where he will address a public meeting for about an hour. From there, according to sources, PM Modi will move to Kangla Fort in Imphal for another public gathering of a similar duration. All Members of the Legislative Assembly have been invited to attend the meetings.

The plan will depend on weather conditions too. If everything goes as per plan, the prime minister will reach by air, else will take the road route.

After the public programmes, PM Modi is scheduled to interact with people currently living in relief camps due to the ethnic violence in the state. While it is not yet clear whether he will physically visit the camps, officials said an interaction is part of the plan. Later, the prime minister will inaugurate the new police headquarters and the Secretariat building, in addition to laying the foundation stones for several upcoming projects, before flying to Guwahati. As per the current plan, PM Modi is expected to leave Manipur around 4pm through his aircraft.

Security Measures Stepped Up

Security forces have tightened arrangements across Manipur ahead of the prime minister’s visit. Combing operations are being carried out in sensitive areas to recover hidden arms and dismantle suspected hideouts, while security agencies are keeping a close watch on anti-social elements, with preventive detentions reported in vulnerable districts. Efforts are also being made to clear road blockades to ensure smooth movement of convoys and emergency services.

In addition, forces are holding regular coordination meetings involving central paramilitary units, state police and intelligence agencies to streamline operations. Social media platforms are under strict surveillance, with authorities closely tracking any unlawful or provocative content that could incite unrest. Officials confirmed that multi-layered security, including drone surveillance, sniffer dog squads and quick response teams, will be deployed at both venues.

The visit is being closely watched as Manipur continues efforts to restore stability and normalcy after months of ethnic violence and displacement.
