Stock markets surge on US–Iran peace hopes

Indian markets rallied sharply on Friday as hopes of a US–Iran peace deal boosted global sentiment. US–Iran deal talks intensify amid venue and nuclear disputes

Geneva is being considered as a possible venue for signing a US–Iran agreement as early as Sunday, according to reports. Meanwhile, Iranian state media said Tehran will not surrender control of the Strait of Hormuz under any draft deal with Washington. Iran also insists on retaining uranium enrichment rights, while Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he is in “full agreement” with Donald Trump on blocking Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. India marks first anniversary of Air India AI-171 crash

Civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu paid tribute to victims of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash on its first anniversary, saying the investigation is continuing with “diligence and professionalism”. The London-bound Boeing 787 crashed near Ahmedabad on June 12 last year, killing 260 people, including passengers, crew and people on the ground, with only one survivor. Read full story
