Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, who is serving a life term in connection with a rape case, has been assigned work as a library clerk in Parappana Agrahara prison.

According to jail authorities, Revanna’s responsibilities would be issuing books to fellow inmates and maintaining records of borrowings, and his daily wages would be Rs 522, news agency PTI reported.

“He is entitled to Rs 522 for each day of work, provided he completes the prescribed duties. In line with prison rules, life convicts are required to perform some form of labour, and assignments are made depending on their skills and willingness,” a jail official told the news agency on Sunday.

Revanna had initially expressed interest in working in the administration, but jail authorities decided to place him in the library instead, PTI reported, citing officials.

He has already completed one day of work in this role. Inmates are normally expected to work at least 12 days a month, spread over three days a week. However, Revanna’s schedule is currently limited as he spends time attending court proceedings and meeting his lawyers.

The former MP, now known as Prisoner No. 15528, occupies a cell in the convicts’ section of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Bengaluru, after he was sentenced to life imprisonment by a trial court in one of the rape cases filed against him.

Revanna is the prime accused in four criminal cases filed last year, after over 2,000 obscene video clips, allegedly depicting the sexual abuse of multiple women, surfaced on social media.

The first complaint against him was lodged in April 2024 by a 48-year-old woman who had worked as a domestic help at his family’s farmhouse in Hassan.

She accused Revanna of repeatedly raping her since 2021, at the farmhouse and then at his house at Basavanagudi in Bengaluru.

She also alleged that Revanna filmed his actions and had threatened to release videos of the abuse if she revealed the incidents to anyone.

As the case came to light, the court framed charges against him under various sections, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and unlawful circulation of intimate images.

Amid public uproar, Revanna fled to Germany soon after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in the State.

He was arrested upon his return to India on May 31, 2024 and has been in jail since.
