Delhi’s biggest Ramlila event, the Lav Kush Ramlila at the Red Fort, will this year honour the Indian Armed Forces by sending out invitation cards inspired by Operation Sindoor. Instead of the usual images of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman, the cards will feature the Army, Air Force, and Navy, officials said on Saturday.

The annual Ramlila celebrations coincide with Navratri and Durga Puja, which this year will be observed from September 22 to October 3.

Ramlila Committee President Arjun Kumar told reporters the decision to honour the armed forces was a way to dedicate the festival to the nation’s heroes.

“We wanted to dedicate the celebrations to our heroes. So, instead of the traditional cards printed with images of Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman, we have chosen to feature tributes to the nation’s heroes,” he said.

The Lav Kush Ramlila this year will also showcase a spectacular stage setup. The three-storey stage, measuring about 140 feet long and 45 feet high, will be decorated with over 1.25 lakh LED lights. A special light director has been brought in to create an atmosphere resembling a grand palace illuminated by thousands of glowing lights.

Artists and technical experts from Gujarat, Kashi, Rajasthan, and Mathura-Vrindavan have been working for weeks to build the set, including a replica of the Somnath Mandir. The temple’s intricate carvings and gold-plated domes will be recreated with colourful LED lighting. Using 3D projection and AI technology, some scenes will make the audience feel as if they are actually inside the temple.

The event will also be broadcast live on nearly 100 national and international TV channels. Around 40 Bollywood actors are set to perform during the celebrations. Each floor of the stage will host grand performances, with the top floor featuring celestial scenes where gods appear and shower flowers.

The Lav Kush Ramlila Committee held the bhoomi pujan ceremony at the Red Fort last month, with Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other leaders in attendance.
