In a big push towards youth empowerment, the Maharashtra government will soon launch a massive job-oriented training drive that aims to benefit nearly 75,000 young men and women across the state.

Skill development minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced on Friday that the state will observe Rozgar and Swayamrozgar Services Fortnight between September 17 and October 2. As part of the initiative, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state will introduce modern, short-term courses to prepare youth for jobs and self-employment opportunities. The programme is also being linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations, with a formal launch of new courses at 419 ITIs on October 1, 2025.

Speaking about the initiative, Lodha said the government is committed to matching the skills of young people with the demands of local industries. “We are not just looking at urban areas. These advanced short-term courses will also be made available in rural districts. The idea is to empower our youth with practical skills that can secure them jobs right in their home districts,” Lodha explained.

The courses will cover a wide range of futuristic fields such as robotics, solar energy technology, artificial intelligence (AI), personality development, and social skills. The programmes will be offered at a very nominal cost, making them accessible to aspiring students as well as those already enrolled in ITIs. To make things more flexible, the training sessions will be scheduled outside regular ITI class timings, so that even those who cannot attend full-time workshops can benefit.

By connecting training with industry requirements, the government hopes to reduce the need for young people to migrate to bigger cities for employment. “This initiative will ensure that students can get both the knowledge and the training they need within their own districts, opening up local opportunities,” Lodha added.

The effort reflects the state’s broader mission of skill development, employment creation, and entrepreneurship. Under Lodha’s guidance, ITIs are being upgraded to global standards and positioned as hubs for high-demand, modern skills. The government believes that this large-scale programme will help make Maharashtra’s youth more confident, independent, and job-ready for the future.
