‘It’s great for the sport…’: Sinner and Alcaraz ready for third straight Grand Slam final clash at US Open

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will clash in the 2025 US Open men’s singles final, their third straight Grand Slam final meeting this season. Sinner shared his thoughts ahead of the historic showdown at Flushing Meadows, while Alcaraz spoke about the special feeling of reaching his second US Open final.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are set to face each other in the 2025 US Open men’s singles final on Sunday, September 7. They have become the first pair in men’s tennis history to meet in three straight Grand Slam finals in a single season after playing in the finals of this year’s French Open and Wimbledon.

Sinner reached the US Open final after a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals on Saturday. Alcaraz qualified for the summit clash after his dominating straight-sets (6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2) win over the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.

Sinner on facing Alcaraz in US Open final

The World No. 1 ranking will also be on the line at the US Open final as Sinner and Alcaraz are the top two seeds in the competition. Sinner is the current No. 1 in the ATP rankings, while Alcaraz is placed second. Talking about their matchup in the final, Sinner said that it is great for the sport to have rivalries.

“It’s great for the sport having rivalries, having hopefully great matches in front of us. I’m someone who loves these challenges, and I love to put myself in these positions and to see how it goes. It’s a very special day. It’s a very amazing final again,” Sinner said.

“He’s [Alcaraz] someone who pushed me to limit, which is great, because you have the best feedback you can have as a player. We’ve faced each other quite a lot now lately, so things are getting a little bit different,” he added.

Alcaraz on reaching US Open final

Alcaraz, on the other hand, said that reaching another US Open final was a special feeling for him. He admitted that his semifinal win wasn’t his best performance of the tournament. He also lauded Djokovic after defeating him and said that it’s not easy to play against the Serbian despite his age.

“It’s a great feeling. Once again in the final here at the US Open, it feels amazing. It means a lot to me. Today, I’d say — it wasn’t the best level of the tournament for me, but I just kept a good level from the beginning until the last point. I served pretty well, I think that was really, really important. Trying to play a really physical match and I think I did it. In general, I played really good tennis and I’m just really happy to be able to play in my second final here,” Alcaraz said.

“It’s not easy playing against him, to be honest. I’m thinking about the legend, what he has achieved in his career. It’s difficult not to think about it. That makes facing him even tougher,” he added.
