A 51-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for threatening to blow up Mumbai on Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of Ganesh Visarjan, September 6. The threat was sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police’s official WhatsApp number on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Ashwini Kumar, claimed that multiple bombs in vehicles were planted across the city and warned of a large-scale attack involving 400 kg of RDX, which would kill one crore people.

He also claimed to be a member of a Pakistan-based jihadi group and also alleged that 14 terrorists had entered the city.

Who Is Ashwini Kumar?

  • Ashwini Kumar is an astrologer and Vastu consultant from Patna.
  • He has lived in Noida Sector 79 for the last five years along with his parents.
  • His father, Suresh Kumar, is a retired education department official, and his mother is a homemaker.
  • The man also has an estranged wife, Archana.
  • He was also jailed for three months in 2023 after a complaint was filed against him at Phulwari Sharif police station in Patna.
  • According to the police cited by the HT, Kumar allegedly sent threats in the name of Firoz.
  • He has been booked under sections 196(1)(a)(b), 351(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
  • As many as seven mobile phones, three SIM cards, six memory card holders, an external SIM slot, two digital cards, and other electronic items have been recovered from him.
