Fuel prices in India have increased significantly, with petrol rising by ₹3 per litre and diesel by ₹3.11 per litre, leading to a broader inflation impact across sectors. In addition, CNG prices have also increased, first reported in Mumbai and now affecting other parts of the country. The rise in fuel prices is expected to increase transportation and logistics costs, which may further push up prices of essential goods such as food, milk, and vegetables. Experts and reporters link the price surge to global crude oil volatility and geopolitical tensions, particularly disruptions related to West Asia and the Strait of Hormuz. Crude oil prices have reportedly doubled compared to earlier levels, putting pressure on oil marketing companies and leading to higher retail fuel rates. While the government had earlier tried to absorb part of the cost, the continued rise in global prices has now been passed on to consumers. Public reactions reflect concern over rising living costs, with many stating that daily commuting and household budgets will be severely impacted.
