What began as workplace camaraderie soon spiralled into a nightmare for a city-based man, after a woman he helped get a job allegedly trapped him in an elaborate extortion racket involving promises of “Reiki therapy”, a trip to Goa, and compromising photographs.

From Office Help To Blackmail Scheme

According to police, the complainant, a Paldi resident in Ahmedabad, had been in a live-in relationship since 2014 and married his partner in August 2024. Around three years ago, he introduced another woman, Ankita, to his workplace on a contract basis. Initially, their professional ties seemed routine.

But when marital disputes left him depressed, Ankita allegedly offered to “heal” him with Reiki therapy. She first demanded Rs 1 lakh for treatment, which the complainant paid. Later, she suggested a trip to Goa, claiming the natural environment would boost recovery.

Goa Trap: Photos, Threats & Film Investments

In Goa, Ankita allegedly took the man’s intimate photos on her phone and later threatened him with those. When her work contract was terminated in Ahmedabad, Ankita reportedly began blackmailing him—threatening to leak the photos to his wife unless he invested in a film project she was pushing.

Fearing exposure, the man arranged Rs 12.5 lakh through his firm’s proprietor. Ankita even signed a promissory note acknowledging the payment.

But the demands did not stop. She allegedly tattooed his name, sent it to his wife, and threatened wider exposure of the Goa photos and videos. Under pressure, the complainant gave her an additional Rs 3 lakh.

Dragging In The Wife

The matter escalated further when Ankita directly approached the complainant’s wife, showing her the photos and videos and demanding Rs 15 lakh to “help” in their marital dispute. She later sent an associate, Dipesh Rathod, to the man’s office to extract another Rs 1.3 lakh.

Despite these payments, Ankita allegedly continued sharing the videos with people connected to the complainant, eventually extorting another Rs 5 lakh after making him sign an affidavit.

Case Registered, Probe Underway

Unable to bear the threats and repeated demands, the complainant approached the police. The Ellisbridge police have now registered a case of cheating, blackmail, and extortion against Ankita and her associate.

Officials say further investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the scheme.

Such cases, police warn, highlight the rising misuse of personal trust and workplace relationships in online and offline blackmail rackets. Victims often remain silent out of fear of social stigma, giving perpetrators room to operate.
