The ruling DMK has fielded S T Jayalakshmi from Perambalur for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, setting up a three-way contest against AIADMK’s Elambai R. Tamilselvan and TVK’s K. Sivakumar.Perambalur is a Reserved (SC) constituency and serves as the headquarters of the Perambalur district. It has been a stronghold for major Dravidian parties, often reflecting broader state-wide trends.In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s M. Prabhaharan won the seat with 1,22,090 votes, defeating AIADMK’s R. Thamizhselvan, who secured 91,056 votes. The margin of victory was 31,034 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s R. Thamizhselvan won the seat with 1,01,073 votes, defeating DMK’s P. Sivakami, who secured 94,220 votes. The margin of victory stood at 6,853 votes.In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s R. Thamizhselvan secured 98,497 votes, defeating DMK’s M. Prabhaharan, who received 79,418 votes. The margin of victory was 19,079 votes.
