The political tension in Kolkata has intensified after allegations of EVM tampering raised by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The party released a video claiming irregularities at a strong room in Bhabanipur, leading to protests and a late-night uproar by party workers. The situation escalated further when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the strong room, spending several hours there amid rising tensions between TMC and BJP workers. Following the chaos, security at the strong room has been significantly tightened with heavy deployment of forces. The Election Commission responded by clarifying that no EVM tampering took place and that only postal ballot sorting was underway, which had already been communicated to candidates. Meanwhile, BJP leaders dismissed TMC’s allegations, calling them a reaction to expected electoral defeat, with a Union Minister claiming Mamata Banerjee is facing political pressure due to unfavorable exit poll trends. The issue has further deepened the political confrontation in West Bengal ahead of vote counting.
