A devastating accident marred the Muharram preparations in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district, where three individuals lost their lives after a Tazia came into contact with an overhead high-tension electricity wire. The tragic incident, which also left at least nine others injured, occurred in Hatnara village under the Piploda police station jurisdiction during a night procession. According to eyewitnesses and local officials, around 150 to 200 people had gathered for the traditional procession. As the large structure was being carried through a turn in the village, its upper section accidentally brushed against a live 11 KV high-tension power line hanging overhead. The electricity immediately surged through the metallic frame of the Tazia, electrocuting those who were carrying it and sparking a loud blast. The sudden impact triggered a stampede-like situation and widespread panic among the onlookers. The deceased have been identified as Rashid Khan, Saddu Hussain, and Arbaz Khan. While two individuals tragically passed away on the spot, the third succumbed to injuries while being rushed for medical care. Local authorities and police personnel immediately reached the spot following the incident to manage the situation. The injured individuals, many of whom suffered severe burn injuries, were instantly moved to the Ratlam Medical College and nearby healthcare facilities via private vehicles. Doctors have reported that the condition of a few victims remains highly critical. Meanwhile, the local administration has launched a detailed investigation into the incident to assess potential lapses by the electricity department regarding the unusually low height of the overhead wires.
