Zareen slams anti-ageing claims post Shefali’s demise

Zareen Khan reacts to Shefali Jariwala's tragic demise, linked to anti-ageing obsession: 'Did we hear this from any doctor?'

On June 28, the country woke up to shocking news that Kaanta Laga girl and Bigg Boss 13 contestant Shefali Jariwala was no more. The 42-year-old actor suffered a cardiac arrest at her Oshiwara residence on the night of June 27. She was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital by her family but was declared ‘brought dead’.The news of her sudden passing sent social media into mourning, with fans and colleagues extending condolences to her actor-husband Parag Tyagi. While the cause of her cardiac arrest remains unclear, reports suggested a sudden drop in blood pressure as a possible reason. Shefali’s close friend Pooja Ghai later confirmed that the actor had hosted a Satyanarayana Puja at her residence that day and was fasting. She also revealed that Shefali had taken a vitamin C IV drip hours before her demise.

Zareen Khan reacts to media speculation

In the wake of the tragedy, a debate erupted around anti-aging treatments and cosmetic procedures. Speaking to Faridoon Shahryar, Zareen Khan strongly criticized the insensitive speculation linking Shefali’s death to cosmetic interventions.“You know, honestly, I don’t even know what to say on this because… is there any proof?” Zareen asked, visibly upset. “It’s so unfortunate, it’s so sad that when a person passes away, the media starts circling around them. The family is grieving, the husband is broken, yet the media is asking what happened. Where is the humanity? Do we really know? Did we hear this from any doctor? Do we have authentic proof?”She urged for restraint and empathy: “Till the time we don’t have concrete proof from doctors, these speculations need to end. Let her rest in peace.”

On the obsession with anti-aging

While condemning the speculation, Zareen also addressed the growing obsession with anti-aging. “I see two aspects,” she explained. “One, people focusing on fitness — eating right, working out, sleeping on time — which is nature’s own anti-aging. And then there’s cosmetic anti-aging, which unfortunately has become a social media trend.”The actor expressed concern over young girls opting for cosmetic procedures under peer and celebrity influence. “I know of girls who haven’t even turned 20 but have had lip jobs and other surgeries. Why? Because they’re following the wrong idols. It’s become a vicious cycle, and in that, tragedies happen.”
