No ‘Shararat’-like track in ‘Dhurandhar 2’? Here’s why

'Dhurandhar: The Revenge': Choreographer addresses absence of song like 'Shararat' in Ranveer Singh starrer: 'No space'

Choreographer Vijay Ganguly explains the deliberate absence of a ‘Shararat’-like song in ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’. He revealed that the film’s narrative, focused on revenge from start to finish, left no room for a celebratory track. Ganguly emphasized that ‘Shararat’ succeeded in the first part because it organically advanced the story, a scope not present in the sequel.

Despite the massive success of the high-energy track ‘Shararat’ in the first installment, ‘Dhurandhar’, fans noticed a distinct lack of celebratory dance numbers in the record-breaking sequel, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge.’ Addressing the buzz, ace choreographer Vijay Ganguly revealed in a recent interview that the decision was entirely intentional. According to Ganguly, while the first film’s wedding setting provided a natural canvas for a dance anthem, the sequel is a “start-to-finish” revenge thriller defined by constant tension.

Vijay Ganguly shares that there was no song like ‘Shararat’ in ‘Dhurandhar 2’

In an interview with India Today, Vijay Ganguly opened up about not having a song like ‘Shararat’ in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. He said, “A lot of people asked me why there isn’t a song like ‘Shararat’. But initially, the film was conceived as one story. All the songs were meant to be in the first half, and te second half focused on revenge, which is what you see now.”He further shared that it was always “planned that way.” The choreographer went on to add that there is “no space” for a celebratory song in ‘Dhurandhar 2’. As per him, a wedding sequence allowed incorporating such a song in that setting. However, in the latest release, “From start to finish, there is constant tension.”Ganguly noted, “Adding a random song would have disrupted the narrative. If a song is not organically part of the script and is added just for promotion, it rarely works.”

Vijay Ganguly on why ‘Shararat’ worked for the film

In the same conversation, Vijay Ganguly added that the song became one of the highlights of the movie as the focus wbecause the story, not the track. He said, “It worked because it was embedded in the story. It did not feel like the narrative paused for a song. A lot was happening within it. It moved the story forward. That is why it connected. In Part 2, there simply was not that scope.”The choreographer shared that he is glad they did not forcibly add a song for the sake of adding, as “people would have questioned it.”
