Hyderabad may have its lakes, historic charm, and vibrant culture, but one thing the city has always missed is a beach. Weekends often see thousands flocking to Andhra Pradesh’s Suryalanka Beach for a taste of the sea. Now, that may soon change.

The Telangana government has unveiled plans to build a massive artificial beach near Kotwal Guda on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Spread across 35 acres, the project will feature a man-made lake with beach-like surroundings—something the state hopes will transform Hyderabad into a world-class tourism destination.

Construction is expected to begin this December with an estimated investment of Rs 225 crore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

A Bold Tourism Vision

Artificial beaches are not new—many countries have built them with advanced wave systems, water sports zones, and modern amenities. Telangana wants to replicate that success.

Planned facilities include:

  • Star hotels and floating villas for upscale stays
  • Adventure sports like bungee jumping, skating, sailing, and winter sports
  • Family attractions including parks, playgrounds, cycling zones, and jogging tracks
  • Leisure spaces like food courts, theatres, decorative fountains, and a wave pool

The idea is to create not just a beach but a full-fledged entertainment and adventure hub where families can spend entire weekends without leaving the city.

Government’s Big Push for Tourism

According to Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready, and groundwork will begin soon. International firms have already expressed interest in investing beyond the initial Rs 225 crore.

Ramesh Reddy also highlighted that Telangana has untapped tourism potential worth over Rs 15,000 crore, including forts, heritage sites, and eco-tourism destinations. The artificial beach will be a flagship project, marking Hyderabad’s entry into the league of global tourist hotspots, he added.

Why Kotwal Guda?

The chosen site near the Outer Ring Road offers environmental feasibility and easy connectivity to the city. The location allows for large-scale development while keeping eco-friendliness in mind—a factor the government insists will be central to the project.

More Than Just Sand And Waves

The government wants this beach to be a one-stop destination for fun, adventure, and relaxation. From wave pools to sailing clubs, from adventure rides to luxury stays, this project aims to bring the sea experience to landlocked Telangana.

If completed as planned, Hyderabad residents may soon find themselves spending weekends at the beach without leaving the city—and tourists worldwide might add Hyderabad to their must-visit list for reasons beyond biryani and monuments.
