The United States’ 50 per cent tariff measure on India is set to take effect at 12:01 am EDT (9:31 am IST) today, adding fresh strain to Washington’s trade ties with New Delhi.
The move comes after repeated warnings from President Donald Trump, who linked the punitive measures to India’s continued imports of Russian crude.

New Delhi, however, has slammed the action as “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable,” insisting that its energy policy is based on securing the best deals for its economy.
