Tata Nexon leads February sales race; Maruti Dzire close behind

Tata Nexon emerged as the country’s best-selling passenger vehicle in February 2026 with sales of 19,430 units, narrowly edging past Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which recorded 19,326 units during the month, according to industry data.

The February sales rankings highlighted the continued dominance of compact SUVs and practical family vehicles in the Indian market.

For Tata Motors, Punch emerged as a strong performer, grabbing the third position with 18,748 units sold, reinforcing the company’s growing presence in the SUV segment.

Hyundai Creta followed in fourth place with 17,938 units, continuing its consistent performance in the mid-size SUV category..

Maruti Suzuki India Limited filled several positions in the top 10 list with multiple high-volume models. As per data, Brezza recorded 17,863 units, while the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga registered 17,807 units during the month.

Among hatchbacks, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Maruti Suzuki Swift continued to attract buyers, selling 14,885 units and 14,833 units, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra also featured in the list with the Mahindra Scorpio recording 14,665 units during February.

Rounding out the top 10 was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which posted 14,632 units in monthly sales.

The February rankings underscore the growing preference among Indian buyers for SUVs and versatile family vehicles, particularly in the compact and entry-level utility vehicle segments.

With competition intensifying, automakers are also experimenting with new ownership models to attract buyers. Companies including Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki India Limited have joined JSW MG Motor India in exploring the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, aimed at lowering the upfront cost of electric vehicles.
