Psephologist Sanjay Kumar Gets SC Relief Over Mistaken Maharashtra Poll Analysis, FIRs Stayed

Supreme Court gave a relief to psephologist Sanjay Kumar whose mistaken poll analysis of the Maharashtra Assembly elections created a political storm.

In a major relief for psephologist Sanjay Kumar, who was at the eye of a political storm over Maharashtra poll analysis figures, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the proceedings in the FIRs registered against him by the state police.

The Maharashtra Police had filed FIRs against Kumar, also the Co-Director of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), for a tweet laying out a mistaken analysis of the Maharashtra assembly elections of 2024, Live Law reported.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, and Justice NV Anjaria halted the proceedings against him in an interim order, while also issuing notice on the writ petition filed by the psephologist, seeking the quashing of all FIRs against him.
