Gut health is the new wealth and true wellness begins within.

We’ve all seen diet and fitness trends come and go what makes precision wellness different?

“Diet and fitness fads treat people as if we’re all the same,” says Max Kushnir, Co-founder & Chief Science Officer, Sova Health. “The reality is, two people can eat the same food, follow the same exercise plan, and still have completely different outcomes because their biology is different.”

That’s where precision wellness steps in. Instead of imposing blanket plans, it begins with the individual, their microbiome, lifestyle, and genetics. At Sova, for instance, gut microbiome testing forms the foundation for fully customised nutraceuticals and meal plans. “If I had to explain it simply, precision wellness is the shift from ‘do what everyone else is doing’ to ‘do what your body actually needs’,” says Kushnir.

How does understanding gut health impact daily concerns like energy, skin, or mood?

“Most people still think of the gut purely in terms of digestion,” he explains. “But in reality, it’s the command center for so many aspects of our health.”

Over 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut, and imbalances often show up in unexpected ways, fatigue, poor sleep, skin breakouts, even mood swings. “By understanding your microbiome, you get a lens into why these everyday concerns are happening, and more importantly, how to correct them sustainably.”

Sova translates this science into personalised probiotics and nutrition guidance, enabling improvements across digestion, energy, sleep, skin, and emotional wellbeing. “It’s a change from treating symptoms to addressing the root cause,” he emphasizes.

What role does technology play in making healthcare more personalised?

“We are living in an age of extraordinary tools,” says Kushnir. Next-Generation Genomic Sequencing (NGS), robotic compounding, and wearable data have unlocked the ability to create micro-batches of nutraceuticals tailored to a single individual. “This is nothing short of a revolution in healthcare,” he notes.

For someone juggling a busy lifestyle, how practical is it to follow a personalised wellness plan?

“That’s exactly why we built Sova X as a product-first solution,” he says. “It’s about integration, not complication.”

Instead of overhauling daily routines, Sova X reduces wellness to one sachet a day covering probiotic needs. For individuals with more complex concerns, nutritional programs deliver small, science-backed interventions, subtle upgrades rather than overwhelming rules. “The beauty is simplicity. You don’t need to rethink your day, wellness adapts around you.”

What small lifestyle changes can readers start with today?

Before anything, Kushnir stresses diagnostics: “Without data, wellness becomes guesswork. Diagnostics give you clarity.”

From there, even minor changes become powerful:

Nutrition alignment: Adjusting meal timing or adding supportive foods if imbalances are found.

Energy-focused activity: Syncing short workouts with natural energy peaks for maximum impact.

Recovery upgrades: Small tweaks in breathwork or sleep hygiene to build resilience.

“The key is that diagnostics tell you which levers to pull, so changes fit your body and your lifestyle, and actually deliver results.”

What misconceptions about gut health would you like to clear up?

One of the biggest myths, according to Kushnir, is the belief in “quick fixes.” “Your microbiome is as unique as a fingerprint. Kombucha or a generic probiotic might help one person but do nothing or even harm another.”

Another misconception is treating low energy, poor sleep, skin issues, or mood swings as unrelated. “They’re often gut-driven. Without diagnostics, it’s borderline impossible to uncover the root cause.”

The future of health: personalised, science-led, sustainable

Kushnir believes that the future of wellness lies in shifting from trends to true personalisation. “When you listen to your biology instead of Instagram, you get sustainable, science-backed results,” he says. “That’s what precision wellness is all about doing what your body actually needs.”
