Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that India is a land of diversity, stretching from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, and that everyone in the region is an Indian.

Speaking at the ‘Hindi Rangmanch – Hamari Bhasha, Hamari Pehchaan’ event held at Tagore Hall in Srinagar, the J&K L-G stressed that Hindi is the one language that connects all others across the region.

“India represents the diversity from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, and everyone here is Indian. From the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, if there is one language that connects all others, it is Hindi,” Sinha said.

Sinha also referred to the Constituent Assembly, mentioning that Durgabai, a representative of the Madras Presidency before Tamil Nadu was formed, had expressed that Hindi should be India’s sole official language or ‘Rajbhasha.’

“In the Constituent Assembly, Durgabai, a representative of the Madras Presidency, at a time when Tamil Nadu did not exist, had said that India’s ‘Rajbhasha’ cannot and should not be anything other than Hindi,” he added.
