Mercedes-Benz India announced the start of local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at its manufacturing facility in Pune, marking the first time the model will be produced outside the United States. The company said the move reflects India’s position among the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach vehicles.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS has so far been sold in India as a completely built unit import. Mercedes-Benz India said local production would support delivery timelines and customer access.

Sales performance and portfolio update

Mercedes-Benz India said it delivered 19,007 vehicles in calendar year 2025, compared with 19,565 units in 2024, recording its highest revenue to date. Top-end vehicles accounted for 25 per cent of total sales and grew 11 per cent year on year, while the AMG portfolio grew 34 per cent. Battery electric vehicles recorded 12 per cent year-on-year growth and accounted for 20 per cent of top-end vehicle sales in India.

The company said 70 per cent of its battery electric vehicles sold in 2025 were priced between ₹1.25 crore and ₹3.1 crore. Entry luxury vehicles declined 20 per cent year on year, contributing 13 per cent to overall volumes, in line with the company’s stated strategy.

Mercedes-Benz India also announced plans to introduce 12 new products in 2026, including new models, facelifts and battery electric vehicles. It said franchise partners would invest more than ₹450 crore to add 15 new luxury touchpoints and upgrade 15 existing outlets.

Charging network and customer initiatives

The company announced the rollout of MB.Charge Public in India, providing access to more than 9,000 DC charging points through partnerships with multiple charging operators.

The service will be available to existing Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle customers at no additional cost, the company said.

Mercedes-Benz India also said it has streamlined sales, service and finance operations into a single customer unit and plans to introduce a digital “three clicks to finance” process.

Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said the decision to locally produce the Mercedes-Maybach GLS underlined the company’s commitment to Indian customers and its focus on top-end vehicles.
