Sharad Pawar Signals Future Unity With Ajit Pawar, Says Politics Has No Permanent Friends or Foes

Veteran NCP leader Sharad Pawar has hinted at the possibility of future political unity with his nephew Ajit Pawar, stating that politics is dynamic and relationships cannot be viewed in rigid terms. Addressing questions about alliance negotiations and seat-sharing disputes in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pawar clarified that attempts were made to contest elections together under the Mahayuti framework, but consensus could not be achieved in certain regions. Pawar revealed that discussions were held with Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as well as other alliance leaders, to explore joint contests. However, disagreements over seat allocation and election symbols ultimately led to separate contests in some constituencies. He added that even after nomination forms were filed, last-minute efforts were made to find a middle path, but procedural timelines made reconciliation difficult. Importantly, Pawar emphasized that political rivalry does not sever family ties. “In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies. We are family, and family relationships remain intact beyond politics,” he said. He noted that personal interactions and family connections continue despite political differences. His remarks have reignited speculation over whether the “chacha-bhatija” duo could reunite in future municipal, state, or even national-level politics, keeping Maharashtra’s political landscape on watch.
