Nalin Haley says Venezuela needs ‘pro-American government,’ warns US must not repeat mistakes

Nikki Haley’s son says Venezuela needs ‘pro-American government,’ warns US must not repeat Iraq and Afghanistan mistakes

Nalin Haley, the son of Indian‑origin Republican politician Nikki Haley, has defended the recent United States military operation in Venezuela and said that the “next phase” must avoid the errors made in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a post on X, the 24-year-old MAGA loudmouth said the United States needed a stable, “pro‑American government” in Caracas after capturing President Nicolás Maduro.“Maduro was an Anti‑American Narco Commie who sent illegals and drugs into our country. America and the world is better without him and this should serve as a lesson to all Anti‑American governments,” Nalin said.He added that he supported the operation but was more focused on what comes next. “My concern is not the operation, but this next phase. We can’t afford to screw this up like we did Iraq and Afghanistan especially since this is in our backyard. We need a Pro‑American government that will govern for a while.”Haley also praised President Trump, his administration and the US military for successfully carrying out the invasion. “President Trump, his administration, and our courageous military deserve all the credit. America is and always will be #1,” he said. The United States carried out a military campaign in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro. Trump announced that Washington would “run” Venezuela “until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.” He said the aim was to stabilise the country and later allow an orderly political process.Trump also told reporters that US oil companies would help fix Venezuela’s “broken infrastructure” and “start making money for the country.” Progressive lawmakers and Blue leaders said the GOP administration is more interested in Venezuela’s oil wealth than in a democratic future. In response to the US action, Venezuela declared a national emergency, condemning a “extremely serious military aggression.” On state television, Venezuelan vice‑president Delcy Rodríguez reaffirmed Caracas’s position that Maduro is the only legitimate president of the country.Maduro has been indicted in New York on charges related to drug trafficking and weapons offences. He has denied involvement in drug cartels multiple times. In the aftermath of the assault, President Trump shared a photograph that showed Maduro on a US military plane, blindfolded and wearing ear defenders.

What happened in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Nalin Haley’s warning refers to the long and costly US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which lasted roughly 20 years combined. The United States toppled regimes but struggled to build stable governments. Both countries faced years of insurgency, civilian casualties, and political chaos, with the US withdrawing after spending trillions of dollars. He is urging that Washington avoid repeating these mistakes in Venezuela by ensuring any new government is stable, capable, and pro‑American.
