Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has called for free subscription to advanced generative AI tools – including ChatGPT and Grok – for all Indians, stressing that artificial intelligence is an opportunity for every Indian citizen of every social strata.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Chadha said, “Today’s world is changing very quickly. In this changing world, AI is not just a technology, but also an opportunity to have dreams and achieve them.”

“For our farmers, they can help in smart farming. They can act as a 24×7 tutor for our students, a business planner for our traders, a career guide for our youth and also a doctor for our elderly. AI has the answers for all your problems,” he added.

Chadha said countries like the UAE, Singapore and China are offering their citizens advanced generative AI tools without any charges, but people in India cannot access these tools as they are too expensive.

He said all Indians must be ready for 2030, when AI is expected to create a $15 trillion economy. “If India provides free subscription of advanced generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude to all Indians of all ages and social strata in all languages, it can improve the country’s productivity and save valuable time.”

“Be it coding, studying data analytics, or simply filling up a form… AI would help us do these jobs with more ease. The government should look into the matter so that no Indian is left behind,” he added.

He called his proposal a step towards digital democracy in order to ensure the well-being of every Indian in the advent of AI. Several AI tools in India require subscriptions to be used to their optimal levels.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has launched the new ChatGPT Go plan in India, its most-affordable premium subscription offering till date. The new ChatGPT option is priced at Rs 399 per month, making it far cheaper than the ChatGPT Plus plan, which comes for Rs 1,999 per month.
