Members of the Youth Congress staged a protest today outside the residence of BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, condemning his objectionable remarks against Congress MP and general-secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

"I assure you that just as we made the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all the roads in Kalkaji like Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks," Bidhuri was purportedly heard saying in a video which went viral on social media on Saturday and Sunday.

The Youth Congress protest comes amid mounting political pressure on the BJP, with Congress leaders accusing-Bidhuri — who is contesting the upcoming Delhi assembly elections from Kalkaji — of perpetuating misogynistic narratives.

Leading the demonstration, Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Akshay Lakra lashed out at Bidhuri for his comments, describing them as "unacceptable" and a reflection of the BJP's "anti-women" ideology.

Lakra alleged that Bidhuri's language and behaviour were emblematic of the BJP's culture, which he claimed was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"It is Ramesh Bidhuri's habit to be rude and use foul language. After all, he learns this from his guru Narendra Modi, who has a history of making derogatory remarks about women," Lakra asserted. He also warned that the people of Delhi and the Kalkaji assembly segment would not forgive him for his remarks.

"The decision will definitely be taken in the people's court," Lakra said, adding that the Youth Congress would continue its protests until Bidhuri issued a formal apology.

Bidhuri, a former BJP MP from South Delhi, has often been in the spotlight for controversial statements, making national headlines in 2023 with his vitriolic and Islamophobic abuse of former Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali inside Parliament.

Delhi watchers say his rhetoric exemplifies the BJP's broader communication strategy, which the Congress claims is divisive and disrespectful.

The protest saw a sizeable turnout of Youth Congress workers, including state office bearers. They held banners and shouted slogans demanding Bidhuri’s apology, vowing to sustain their agitation until their demands were met.

Notably, Bidhuri has not yet issued an apology, though he did say 'sorry' in a video statement. Congress leaders, however, have signalled their intent to escalate the issue if their demands are ignored.
