A harrowing video from Kerala's Wayanad district has gone viral, capturing a biker's narrow escape from a charging elephant in the Thirunelli forest area.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a man, along with his wife and child, was traveling on a two-wheeler through the forest fringe. A nearby car, whose occupants also witnessed the elephant's charge, had to reverse rapidly to avoid the enraged tusker.
This alarming encounter highlights the growing human-wildlife conflict in Kerala, where a spate of fatal elephant attacks has been reported in recent months.
Just last week, a 54-year-old tribal woman was killed by a wild elephant in Malappuram district while she was grazing her goat in the forest. In another tragic case, a tribal man lost his life in the Nilambur forest area after a wild elephant attack.
Incidents like these underline the challenges of managing human-elephant interactions in forested regions of the state, where both humans and wildlife struggle for space and resources.
