Varun Dhawan 'Depressed' After Baby John Failure? Rajpal Yadav Reveals 'His Attempts...' - News18

Rajpal Yadav has revealed if Varun Dhawan is ‘depressed’ due to the failure of his recently released movie, Baby John. In the movie, Yadav played the role of constable Ram Sevak, a deputy to Varun’s character, DCP Satya Verma. In a recent interview, Rajpal Yadav talked about Baby John’s debacle at the box office and claimed that the film could have worked better if people had not watched the original Tamil movie Theri.

“If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film," he told Bollywood Bubble.

Asked if Varun is ‘depressed’ after Baby John’s failure, Rajpal Yadav added, “Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks."

Released on December 25, 2024, Baby John also starred Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff in key roles. The story of the movie revolves around Inspector Satya Verma (Dhawan), aka Baby John, leading a peaceful life with his daughter Khushi and an old friend, Ram Sevak (Rajpal Yadav). However, his past secrets bring turmoil to his life over his dangerous battle with Babar Sher (Jackie Shroff), exploring his fight to avenge his wife’s fate and exploitation of women.

The film mainly received negative reviews from critics and fans. “The film falters in its writing and direction. The plot feels stretched, with a sluggish first half that echoes Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore. Although the second half gains momentum, it remains predictable, lacking suspense or originality," a part of News18 Showsha’s review of the movie read.

Baby John was made on a budget of Rs 180 crore but it managed to earn less than Rs 50 crore at the box office.
