Indian Navy’s combat capabilities will get a major boost on Wednesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to dedicate three frontline naval combatants- INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer to the nation during their commissioning event at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The commissioning of cutting-edge warships will mark a significant leap forward in realising India’s vision of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security, a statement issued on Monday said.
All three warships boast advanced features and have been designed to meet different requirements of the Indian Navy. Of the three, INS Surat is the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project. It comes equipped with state-of-the-art weapon-sensor packages, according to the statement.
PM Modi described the commissioning event, which will take place tomorrow in Mumbai, as a special day towards boosting naval capabilities. “The commissioning of three frontline naval combatants will strengthen our efforts towards being a global leader in defence and augment our quest towards self-reliance," he said in an X post.
