Two students preparing for competitive exams in Kota died by suicide on Wednesday, bringing the total number of such cases in the city to six in the first 22 days of 2025, according to the police.

Ashfa Sheikh, a 24-year-old NEET aspirant from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, ended her life in her paying guest room in Jawahar Nagar around 10 am. She had attempted the medical entrance exam multiple times but had not cleared it. While she had taken coaching in the past, she was self-studying at the time. The police did not find a suicide note in her room and are investigating the reason behind her death.

Just two hours later, an 18-year-old JEE aspirant from Guwahati, Assam, also died by suicide in his hostel room in Mahaveer Nagar. The student, who was scheduled to appear for the JEE-Mains exam next week, used an iron angle to hang himself, despite the hostel having anti-suicide devices installed.

His mother was on her way to Kota to support him, but he took the drastic step before her arrival. The police are awaiting the arrival of his uncle from Delhi to proceed with the post-mortem.

Both bodies have been kept in the mortuary.
