Girl, you're not...': Elon Musk's sassy reply to Justin Trudeau over US-Canada merger post ByMuskaan Sharma Jan 08, 2025 06:10 PM IST Share Via Copy Link Elon Musk took a jab at Justin Trudeau after the Canadian Prime Minister ruled out a merger with the US.

Tech billionaire and Tesla boss Elon Musk took a dig at outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after the leader rejected the Canada-US merger pitched by US President-elect Donald Trump.

Taking to X, which Musk owns, Trudeau denied the possibility of a merger between the two countries. "There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner," he said in his post.

Musk, a Trump confidant, who has in the past endorsed his idea of making Canada the 51st state of the US, hit back at Trudeau. "Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so doesn’t matter what you say," he said, replying to his post.

Recently, Trump has frequently referred to Trudeau as the Governor of the “great state of Canada” and added that the country should become US' 51st state soon. However, when asked if he would use military power to annex Canada, Trump said, “No. Economic force.”

“You get rid of the artificially drawn line and you take a look at what that looks like and it would also be much better national security. Don’t forget: We basically protect Canada,” he said at a press conference.

Trudeau’s statement came a day after he announced his intent to resign as Prime Minister and leader of the ruling Liberal Party. Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre, who is expected to be his successor as Canada’s PM, also hit back at talk about US merger: “Canada will never be the 51st state. Period. We are a great and independent country," he said

But Trump seems unbothered by the pushback and posted an image of the American flag superimposed on Canada. The president-elect has also revealed plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America”.
